Question

Bridged modem to router, is there a lan speed bottleneck ?

Mar 4, 2016 11:29AM PST

So I currently have a 8800nl router that I've bridged as a modem, this then connects to a asus rt ac87u which controls everything so what I was wondering, if I'm using a 10/100 port from the 8800nl to the wan port of the ac87u will this cause a lan speed bottleneck?

All devices connected should function at the lan speed of the wifi on the asus this is correct ? And not bottleneck to the modems 10/100? I'm not asking about Internet speeds as my speed is only 24 Mbps anyway but I'm wondering for actual lan speed between devices

You can only know by testing.

But a wired connection direct to the modem is always, if only marginally faster. Any component inbetween does drop the speed a little. But it should be fine. That is, no matter which router you install, there's a small price to pay.

modem to a router is to increase the wireless speed. If you have a modem with built in router and want to use a better wireless router. The Lan speed should not be affected.
