Resolved Question

Bridge or Entry Level DSLR

May 7, 2012 2:43PM PDT

I'm bit confused to have a bridge (NIKON P510) or DSLR(Canon 1100D).Main problem is I posses an amount of 20k or max. 25k for that i think P510 is the best one as its only one month being launched with 16MP & 42X zoom( zoom range of 24mm-1,000mm) even with macro of 2cm so it feels to be a cake with cherry on its top @20k.
But canon is an old model also after kit with 2 lens it would be above 30k.[http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-1100D-vs-Nikon-P510].
But still I have an EYE onDSLR,could someone can suggest a better DSLR for low price @20k

Clarification Request
Opinion about Mirrorless Cameras
May 29, 2012 9:35PM PDT

Recently only I came to know about mirrorless camera, I was just to purchase

Nikon P510 the dealer told me that mirrorless are similar to DSLR without OVF ,so reducing size.He showed me Sony NEX 5N around 35k.Later I browsed thru net and found that Sony NEX 3K for 19k cheaper than Nikon P510.

But Sony NEX 3k is about 2yrs old and features of slr like RAW r there.Still PLz list pros and cons on it

Could U plz help to choose verdict.

The Difference
May 8, 2012 12:03AM PDT

A bridge camera gives you lots of features for very little cost because the main part of the camera...namely the sensor...is very small. In fact, it is the same sized sensor used in compact cameras. The small size of the sensor is why you can have a 24-1000mm lens. The downside is that the image quality is only best in outdoor light.

A DSLR sensor is massive compared to a bridge camera; about 12 times the size. That allows for higher quality images and much better performance in low light. You can also get high performance lenses. The disadvantages of a DSLR are size and weight, and high performance lenses are very expensive. A DSLR by design is not a fixed cost item; how much performance is determined by how much you are willing to spend.

If you never need to print poster sized photos, only shoot in good light, never want to use Photoshop, and never want to spend more, get a bridge. Otherwise, get a DSLR, but be warned that you will end up spending a lot if you want to do more things with it.

cheaper dslr???
May 8, 2012 1:57PM PDT
Danxz PistonCupChampion Blush to point out the differences, could u plz mention few cheaper dslr.I know after purchasing a telephoto and wide angle lens with dslr body it costs more than 30k.But is there any point to buy an entry level dslr as if I'm a beginner in photography or to buy a bridge and later to upgrade to a dslr.since many manual settings and its massiveness to carry makes discomfort for a beginner like me with lens but bridges body feels to be same size as of dslr body .So going for an entry level dslr right now or bridge,if so plz mention few entry level dslr like canon EOS 1100D with pros & cons

Entry Level DSLR
May 8, 2012 3:42PM PDT

Other choices include the Nikon D3100 and Pentax K-r. Sony makes cameras similar to a DSLR, but are technically DST. The entry level Sony is the A35. I won't list pros and cons...there would be too much to write. Picking one is a matter of personal preference. But Canon and Nikon have better overall systems, with more lenses and flashes to choose from.

Narrowing back to Bridge

Panasonic FZ150
May 10, 2012 12:31AM PDT

Most reviews point to the FZ150 as being the best bridge. While it does not have as wide or as long of a lens (25-600mm eq. vs. the Nikon's 24-1000mm eq.), it makes up for that with more features that literally make it a "bridge" camera. The FZ150 can support an external flash, has an external microphone jack, has a higher capacity battery, and offers RAW output.

Sony NEX
May 30, 2012 12:13AM PDT

The first generation NEX 3 has the image quality of a DSLR. There is no viewfinder, not even as an optional accessory. It has a poor control system, and a poor selection of lenses and flash. It is a very good choice if you want to use the camera like a point and shoot, but a bad one otherwise.
