Question

Brand new out of the box Windows laptop

Oct 11, 2018 8:57AM PDT

Hi everyone - just from what I can see on the MS forums, this is not a new issue but here's some quick history. I had an ASUS ROG with an intel i7 and 8 GB of RAM that got stuck in a continuous repair loop. After 3 days on the phone with MS they got into it and deleted every single file I had off the computer and then it basically didn't work. I am a self-employed independent contractor and I work at home - I use programs like Dreamweaver and Photoshop, and I have to use Word and Dragon dictation. So I bought a new computer, a Dell Inspiron with an intel i7 and 16 gb of ram with a hard drive (not an SSD). Anyway brand new out of the box it basically moves worse than anything I've ever seen. I've spent 4 hours this morning working in one document in Word - Word not responding, dragon not responding, firefox not responding. There's literally nothing on this computer aside from MS Office, Adobe CC and Dragon dictation. It's awful. I can't get any help from MS or the forums. Is there any sort of fix for this slow and painful experience? I'm stuck on this platform because I have to use Dragon. When I called their customer service they said it wasn't compatible with a VM so I basically have to use windows. I'm happy to answer anything I can that would give more info - I'm not a terribly techy person - but at this point I've been not working for nearly a week and I'm watching money fall down the drain.

In your case.

You may want to get a computer coach to deal with your PC Windows Woes. At home and office we have Dells and ROGs without such trouble but we also have good to guru class Windows folk to call on. I get to help at times too.

Both machines looked capable but many find out they don't want to become an expert in Windows.

Answer
Did you do the updates for Windows 10.

Since the pc hasn't been turned on and you don't know how long it has been sitting in the warehouse there are probably some updates needed.
