bp-p2500 scaling bug with 720p

Feb 8, 2009 5:31AM PST

Hi,

I have bd-p2500 connected to Sanyo Z5 projector with hdmi. I was quite happy, but not so stunned, with blu-ray picture quality until noticed that I get much more detailed picture when Z5 is let to handle the downscaling from 1080p to 720p (z5's native resolution). Also 1080i is much more detailed.

When bd-p2500 is set to output at 720p, the picture looks like it is first downscaled to much lower resolution than 720p before upscaled to 720p. This can be seen on jagged Samsung logo on the start screen, menu texts, subtitles etc. Using resolution test patterns it became obvious that z5 handles the 1080p->720p correctly, but bd-p2500 is not.

I have an european version with fw 2.2. I was in understanding that Reon HQV should be the best of the best also for 720p and that was the reason I bought Samsung. Hopefully this is a software bug and will be fixed in the following firmware versions.

Has anyone else similar experiences?
