Both CD/DVD drives not found

by drbrown / November 19, 2005 5:57 AM PST

I'm getting the message ''Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device (code 41)''. Device Manager shows the drives, but My Computer and Windows Explorer does not. If this was just one drive, I would suspect faulty hardware, but since I'm getting this message for both drives, something else must be the problem. This problem is on a Sony Vaio with XP home version. One drive is a H-T CD/DVD that came with the machine and the other is a Sony DVD burner that was added it has yet to work. Problem arose in the machine that came home with my son from college with a bug. Got that fixed (I think)and now have the drive problem. Any way to repair this without a re-format? HELP!!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
