Insert and boot to the Vista DVD, choose your keyboard/language settings, then on the next screen choose the Repair option from the bottom left corner. If you run the Startup Repair wizard it should resolve the problem, though upon booting Vista you'll likely face an activation warning. That will lead to a short call to Microsoft's toll-free number to have the license validated again. A bit tedious, but with a little luck it will all go smoothly.
Hope this helps,
John
P.S. This assumes there are no SATA drivers needed for the 'new' motherboard.
Heres the situation
I had a intel motherboard in comp2 which was faster then the one in comp1 (comp1 being the main comp). when i set comp2 up the harddrive with xp on it, had to be cleaned and reinstalled because it couldnt boot into it. i read somewhere this is because the motherboard settins werent the same on the OS ( not sure if correct)
Anywho i swapped the motherboards in comp1 and comp2. But on my main hdd in comp1 it wont boot up. i dont want to clean it as it has everything on it and i dont want to go buy a new hdd, is there anyway i can get this to work e.g. repairing windows vista from setup instad on reinstalling
I have the retail version of vista Not OEM
