Boot up with a timer?

Jun 9, 2005 4:32AM PDT

Does anyone know how to boot up a computer with a timer? I can easily set up a computer to run programs and shut down unattended but I would like to also make it boot up unattended.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Leland

I don't think that's possible...

I don't think it's possible for a computer to cold boot on a timer by itself. Why would you need something like that anyway?

I'm responsible for recording sermons at church and when I travel I would like to simply have it automated. If I knew what kind of relay to get I could simply splice into the power button wires and attach the relay to a seven day timer.

How about leaving it on all the time?

How about leaving it on all the time? That's what I do. I'm involved in a anime fansub group, and need to help seeding torrents. So, I often leave my computer on 24 hours a day for weeks at a time. I've been doing this with my current computer ever since building it about a year ago. The thing haven't broke down yet... ^_^

Thanks Guys!

Thanks for the suggestions! I thought about leaving it on because it is plugged into a UPS but there's not real good ventilation in the room and I only use it two days a week.
Getting a volunteer to take my place is the way we've done it for years ... I guess I just thought it would be neat to automate it.

Thaks again,
Leland
