Boot Up Problem

May 22, 2005 12:10AM PDT

Every morning when I boot my computer up I get this message

"Boot Sector Not Found. Please insert a bootable cartridge and press a key.

Boot failure: System halted."

I then push the reset button & it will load up fine. It just seems to do it the first time I start it in the mornings.

I dont understand what's wrong. I don't have any disks in any drives or anything & I tried reformatting it and it still does it.

Any ideas?

Could be an impending hardware failure....

I might run the hard drive makers drive fitness test and possibly enable SMART in the Bios (if it exists).

As well as what Michael has suggested..

it could be a problem in your Bios or that your system isn't updating the CMOS when it shuts down - I get this when I change boot sequence in the bios, so try the following:
1/Update your bios firmware and mother board drivers as it may not be working well with SP2 installed.
2/ If you have your disk set to "auto" select in your bios, then try and set it to your actual disk properties. And visa-versa
3/ At boot, just after your computer has done a memory check, press [pause] and wait 10 seconds then press the space bar.
4/ Instead of pushing the reset button enter the bios and then "save and exit" and see what happens.
5/Make sure in the bios that "boot up floppy seek" is turned off and that your hard drive is set as the first boot sequence.
6/ Check all cables and connection are OK.
7/ Turn off bios shadowing as a last resort.
8/ Instead of shutting down the system try putting the system on "standby" over night.
Let me know what happens
