If you are SURE the BIOS is set to boot from the recovery DVD (check the BIOS) and it doesn't - or it does and then gives this error - the machine needs repair. It should work.
If you want to backup your photo's first, there are 2 good ways:
1. Boot from a Linux Live CD and burn to DVD using that.
2. Get the disk out, buy an USB2 to IDE/SATA cable and connect it to another PC to read it.
If the disk is broken, none of the two will work, alas.

Please help as i dont want to lose my family photos! (i should of backed up!)
When i boot my pc up it comes up with =
INFO: an error occured while atempting to read the boot configuration data
FILE: \boot\bcd
STATUS: 0x000000f
it tells me to try the installation cd and click on repair but its a recovery cd and dosent have a repair section just a reformat or non destructive recovery i have tried non destructive but the same screen appears at start up! i have a HP media center pc m 7000 m7635uk
