Boot disk will not work

by headeulogy / February 14, 2010 11:24 AM PST

So I'll explain in detail so you computer junkies can help me out - and thanks in advance.

So my computer (desktop - Compaq) fell off the table while on and slammed onto the ground. When I turned it back on I got the infamous BSOD, and looked up the code it gave out, and it said the HDD was messed up. Oh well, buy a new one. Installed. Go to load up the computer, put in the Windows XP boot disk, and hit BIOS Set it up so the computer will boot from disk - nothing. For half a second there is a blank screen with the cursor at the top, then my monitor says no signal. When this happens it appears the the the DVD R drive is processing the cd, but nothing ever happens. Figure maybe the DVD R drive when bad. Buy a new one. Installed. Same scenario.

So my assumption would be that my mobo is gone (process of elimination) I figured I would ask if this is the case, or if this is something fixable that others have had issues with.

Thanks a bunch yall

Yea, the bios comes up fine with on the monitor so I imagine the video is working. THe computer is about 4 years old and is really bare bones for me to download music/movies/stream video. The video is integrated with the mobo. This computer is really only the power supply, mobo, one stick of 500mb ram, cd/dvd/rw and a hard drive... thats it.
