Bookshelf Stereo that plays mp3 from USB drive or SD card

Sep 7, 2009 4:49AM PDT

I am tired of replacing stereos that have glitchy CD players that screw up my CDs. This is for the bedroom. I don't like the Apple stuff, the controls aren't intuitive for me; so an iPod on a dock isn't a solution. I really just want something that behaves pretty much like an old school bookshelf CD system, but runs music off a)internal memory ,b)SD cards, or c) USB thumb drive.
I've already tried some streaming internet server devices that don't work. I also don't want to pay monthly fees, like satellite radio. I have my own eclectic music on CDs that I've ripped.
I'd like price to be under $200, and to shut off automatically after x amount of time.

I agree, it looks like the MP3 market is underserved while a lot of manufacturers are
catering to apple products.

Using a loudeer MP3 player with portable speakers
Mar 2, 2011 2:58PM PST

I started with a ZUNE 4GB and a light portable inexpensive speaker at Best Buy: HMDX audio. The volume was too low. I upgraded to Sony SRS-M50 portable stereo speakers, which have louder sound. Then I switched to a Trio T4300HD-8GB MP3 player, to get a very good combination, loud enough for my purpsoes. That combinationn would even be loud enough for playing in an automobile while moving.

If you want a bookshelf system, look to a louder MP3 player and then you may have to buy to try out bookshelf units that have an plug input for external soundi and keep takiing them back until you find one you like.

Then please report your experience for the rest of us.
