BOL Poll: What music do you listen to/What's new on ur iPod?

by robstak / March 23, 2008 2:16 PM PDT

Defy the stereotype that all geeks listen to is house music!... Country? Underground Hip-Hop?

For me: Rock/Metal/Indie Fan
Currently listening to: Alter Bridge / Spoon / Five Finger Death Punch

I'm all over the place
by ktreb / March 23, 2008 5:13 PM PDT

Disco, Freestyle, Goth (not so much these days as I've grown out of the doom and gloom), and a little bit of Country and some Metal Sometimes, I'm stuck in the '80s, but not Debbie Gibson or Tiffany. However, I got rickrolled a couple of months ago, so I had to buy the song to finally get it out of my head. For s*its and giggles, I sometimes listen to polka.

Favorite artists/groups that I follow: Peter Gabriel, Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo, Siouxsie and the Banshees...oh gee, it seems like I'm really stuck in the '80s.

In the past couple of weeks, I've downloaded the B-52's EP Funhouse Remix and Planet Claire Francois Kervorkian Remix, Sting's Nothing Like The Sun album(I have this on vinyl), Believe(Moon Version) from the Bravery, and the Bridge School Collection Vol 1 and 2. Oh yeah and the free iTunes song of the week from the Kills, Cheap and Cheerful....it's okay, most of the time the song of the week sucks.

Americana, Blues, Jazz, Flute, World, ....
by Owyn / March 23, 2008 11:23 PM PDT

Most new, or new to me, music comes first via Music podcasts and blogs.

Coverville
NPR Music (All Songs Considered, Jazz, Live Concerts, KUT)
Blues(The Roadhouse, Rasven'n'Blues, Bandana Blues, Austin Riffs)
CNet Crossfade blog and Studio C podcast
CBC Radio 3 and New Music Canada
Indiefeed

Most recent new albums, all initially heard via NPR or Radio 3, include:
Basia Bulat - Oh, My Darling
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Age

and a Steve Earle trifecta
Steve Earle - Washington Square Serenade
Allison Moorer (Steve's wife) - Mockingbird
Shelby Lynne (Allison's sister) - Just a Little Lovin

One of my favourite albums from last year, Herbie Hancock - River, was first heard via a CNet Crossfade posting and it's free streaming of the entire album. I had the full album within the week.

Out Alive, by Lorene Drive
The Burning Hour, by Test Your Reflex

I have a 30 GB 5th gen. IPOD. I recently discovered the Icelandic band SIgur Ros, and just bought their "untitled" album, which is often referred to as the bracket album.. So far, I really love what I hear. I discovered them by watching the movie "Vanilla Sky."

Other artists I've listened to lately: The Doors, Feist, Broadcast, Electric Light Orchestra, April March

Eclectic but Mainstream

In the words of Billy Joel. It's all Rock N Roll to me.
I have disco, rap, country, new wave, rock, glam rock, arena rock, classic rock, metal, hair bands, alternate, blues, folk, country rock, folk rock, acid rock, grunge, and my kids tell me I have emo whatever the heck kind of music that is.

Newest song. Amy Winhouse's Rehab (from Amazon). Current music collecting efforts. Replacing a couple of hundred Cassettes with CD's or Digital.

Let's see...

Newer stuff I've put in the last month:

Music:
The Libertines
Spoon
The Decemberists (thanks for that one Veronica)
The Donnas
A few Jonathan Coulton songs
The "Garden State" soundtrack

Audio Books:
Me Talk Pretty One Day
A Briefer History of Time

Podcasts:
MIT Lecture Series on computer science algorithms
Warp Drive Active (an EVE-online podcast)
TWIT
Wait, Wait, don't tell me!

Oddly I never have any BOL on my mp3 player (a Creative Zen V) since I either watch the video before I head in to work or listen to the podcast while I'm at work.
