The kit will save you a few dollars over purchasing the body and lens separately.
The camera manufacturer has chosen the lens that will cover the most situations that the average photographer will encounter.
If you are new to cameras with changeable lenses, it is not advisable to try to select a different lens at this time.
I suggest you go with the kit lens and use it for about 6 months.
By then you will know what special features you want/need in any future lenses.
You may discover that the kit lens is all you need.
Lenses can be very expensive, you want to choose wisely because some lenses can cost much more than the camera itself.
