RUSKIN, Florida (CNN) -- Searchers in Florida looking for missing 13-year-old Sarah Michelle Lunde found a body about half a mile south of the girl's home, Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee said Saturday.

Authorities still do not know if the body is Sarah, Gee said.

So sad ...
Apr 16, 2005 5:02AM PDT

... I don't know what some women are thinking Sad It should be stressed over and over again how many of these men target single moms for the SPECIFIC reason of gaining access to their children. No, I do not think such parents should be sentenced to a life of solitude until their kids grow up, but they HAVE to be extra diligent of the dangers that are out there. It is sad to think it's come to this, but everyone should probably do the routine checks on those they date, but this is even more important for those with kids.

Good comments. When I got my job as a technician,
Apr 16, 2005 3:50PM PDT

the company pretested me for necessary skills, then put 3 weeks training in me before I ever met a customer on my own. And did a drug and background check.

None of the above required for engaged couples. Sad

The additional point ...
Apr 17, 2005 5:29AM PDT

... is that even if we begin TOMORROW putting these types away for life, that leaves thousands out there, as well as the thousands more that haven't yet been caught Sad The stats on how many offenses they have before a conviction sometimes is truly frightening.

If I hadn't re-met my husband when I did, things were getting to the point that I would have run a background check on anyone that I met and considered getting seriously involved with. If I had had kids, that would simply be a no-brainer in this day and age of sex offender registries, etc.

No, I'm not blaming the Mom here for the sick act of this disgusting excuse for a human being. But she, like the Van Dams, bears some responsibility for his having access to her child Sad
