BOB, EVER HEAR OF ECHO OFF

Nov 24, 2003 5:46AM PST

I THOUGHT ABOUT IT A WHILE, IF I HAD MOVED MY AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE ANYWHERE ELSE, THE REAL MODE DRIVER THAT LOADS DURING THIS EXECUTION WOULD HAVE CONFLICTED WITH WINDOWS. THE COMPUTER PROBABLY WOULD HAVE **** THE BED. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH, A SIMPLE ECHO OFF COMMAND AT THE BEGINNING OF THE AUTOEXEC FILE HIDES THE REMAINING COMMANDS. THANKS ANYWAY.

Don't use it anymore.

To eek the last bit of speed from the machine, moving things out of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT can trim the boot time. The solution I provided had this bonus.

At the same time, your keyboard appears to have broken. Or you are trying to shout.

The ECHO OFF might still be seen so here's how to hide it.

@ECHO OFF

Those were the days of MS-DOS.

And better buy a new keyboard if your caps lock key is stuck. Using caps only is considered bad behaviour in forums.

Absolutely. This is Windows 98 so...

You can do without these SET commands. Config.sys was already processed so you get the benefit of a newer DOS. The use of MSCONFIG and ENVIROMENT variables is the new way. If you ever move to Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003, this is also how you set them.

Your choice, but when I share such solutions, I may move to IMHO the best solution I know of.
