Donald Trump's nuclear expansion tweet

One of the world’s most famous scholars said he was "frightened" by Donald Trump’s tweet on "strengthening and expanding" nuclear capabilities in the US.

Noam Chomsky, professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said Mr Trump’s tweet was "one of the most frightening things I’ve seen recently".

Aren't there already enough nuclear devices to pretty well level the inhabited world.

Complain about the price of Airforce one...and build nuclear weapons that will more than likely NEVER be used?

I suppose everyone should give him a chance to see if he is a man of his word....AFTER he uses a couple nuclear devices he'll get the respect he wants.

HAS to include the RED LINE drawn by BO, but didn't for some reason.........hmmmmmmm

This "red line"?..OK...I'll include it

In reply to: Bluster, by your posted definition

Obama's 'red line' haunts Clinton, Trump

The Democratic nominee played a surprising role in deciding not to bomb Syria, but her rival also supported the president's decision.

Though he now ridicules Obama’s aborted military action, at the time he urged Obama in a tweet not to follow through on his threat to bomb Syria. He did so even after many observers argued that American credibility was on the line, a view Trump now appears to endorse. But Trump also argued that Obama never should have issued his red-line ultimatum in the first place.

And you voted for "change"?......

So BO's 'threat' was nothing but BLUSTER?

In reply to: This "red line"?..OK...I'll include it

which your own post says "Trump also argued that Obama never should have issued his red-line ultimatum in the first place."

In the REAL world, ultimatums should never be given unless you are willing to deal with the consequences/pushbacks of those ultimatums....which, obviously, BO really wasn't willing to deal with. When in doubt, keep your mouth shut and keep it simple, stupid.

I don't see Trump's message as an ultimatum but reality.....he was responding to Putin's statement that he was going to increase Russia's nuclear capacity. Russia actually has more nukes than the USA does at this point in time so why would Putin think he needs more all of a sudden? He doesn't.....he was 'testing the waters' of the new leader-to-be, and it has many Dems scratching their heads over "why would he do that IF Trump and Putin are 'friends'? As Trump has stated many times over during the debates, if someone pushes him, he pushes back harder. What did you expect him to say or did you instead expect he would stand still for that particular 'ultimatum' Putin put out? Trump has also stated many times that you never show your hand ahead of time....leave them guessing/wondering and stay unpredictable.

"Trump also argued that Obama never should have issued his red-line ultimatum in the first place."

Perhaps TheRUMP should listen to his own advice.

As Trump has stated many times

TheRUMP states many things...only to be deleted or spellchecked....BLUSTERING?

So BO's 'threat' was nothing but BLUSTER

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery?

TheRUMP loves Obama?

So you admit that

BO's 'threats' to other leaders/countries have always been nothing but tv posturing/bluster with no intent to back up his threats?

Just as his 'word' about being the 'best friend to Israel they've ever had' and turned around today and gave Israel his middle finger on his way out the door.........

Trump's words aren't bluster when you get an immediate positive response to them......can you say "Carrier".....can you say "Boeing".....can you say "Putin sends a Christmas card to Trump hopeful for a good relationship with the USA".....can you say "China having a fit over the conversation between Trump and the Taiwan President"

BO's 'red line' immediate response was to be ignored completely with actual deaths using chemical weapons immediately afterward.

I'm getting EXACTLY what I voted for.....finally.....a President who means what he says.

Trump Accuses NBC of ‘Purposely’ Misquoting His Nuclear Weapons Comments (Except They Didn’t)

The holiday season might be the time of peace on Earth, good will towards men, and all of that other fuzzy stuff, but that’s not stopping President-Elect Donald Trump from swiping at the media again.

On Saturday, Trump claimed that NBC intentionally misquoted him over his recent comments about expanding America’s nuclear weapons capacity:

TheRUMP doesn't "quit" on Christmas Eve...neither do I.

I read some of the stories, and the quotes seemed to agree, and seemed straightforward. Trump says he was misquoted. I see no middle ground. Assuming all the players are rational adults, is this the future of adult discussion on life-and-death topics? Not good.

Chomsky is indeed a recognized scholar in his field, which is linguistics, not politics. In politics he is somewhere to the left of Karl Marx. Once your respondents find out ( I won't tell) they'll poison your well something fierce.

Since TheRUMP is talking about nuclear weapons

Let's get some input from a "nuclear expert"

Matthew Bunn, a nuclear expert at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, said that the Russians "see U.S. modernization plus missile defense plus conventional precision weapons as a serious threat to their nuclear deterrent ... they have been doing nuclear saber-rattling that has been unprecedented."

However, Bunn said, that doesn't mean the U.S. needs more nukes.

In a debate, Trump agreed with moderator Lester Holt of NBC News that nuclear weapons are of paramount importance to the U.S. — but then called for more nations to join the nuclear club.

I wonder if he's ever even detonated a nuclear device...but he's an "expert", I think THAT would be a per-requisite..to be an "expert".

TheRUMP is all over the place on the subject....

Common sense:

Donald Trump Drops Threat of New Hillary Clinton Investigation

President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Tuesday that he had no intention of pressing for an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server or the financial operations of her family’s foundation, dropping the “lock her up” pledge that became a rallying cry for his campaign for the White House.

Mr. Trump, who branded his rival “Crooked Hillary” and said she would go to jail if he were president, said in an interview with reporters and editors at The New York Times that he was no longer interested in pursuing Mrs. Clinton, in part because he wanted to heal the wounds of a divisive campaign.

That was then...now is now.....

TheRUMP being "flexible" He can't use "flexible" that is Obama's word....
