Bluetooth on Dell T1700

Dec 9, 2017 6:32AM PST

I've bought 4 different dongles and none of them work on the Dell T1700. When I use a dongle specific to the device like a mouse and or keyboard it works. What do I have to do to add bluetooth to my Dell T1700 so my Plantronics headset will work. It works on my Acer PC MC605 no problem. I've asked Dell and they said nothing I can do will make the Dell T1700 workstation Bluetooth compatible.

While I've used so many Bluetooth adapters over the years.

Some require drivers, some don't and I do encounter folk that are challenged at setting up not only the adapter but the steps to pair and operate Bluetooth in general. All this is on the web so here I don't write how to install or use but need a little more.

1. What OS?
2. Did you try a few USB ports? Some front ports are just bad.
3. Four models? Which ones?

If I were to try again, I'd pick a best seller from Amazon's list. These are not overly expensive.

Bluetooth on Dell T1700

Windows 7, Windows 10, Linux Ubuntu. I tried USB ports 2.0 and 3.0 in 6 different ports.
They all recognize the same dongle CSR8510 A10 but don't do anything. Dongle Asaki, Orico, the others just say bluetooth 4.0

Need more detail about don't do anything.

When I plug in the adapters the device installs if need but but nothing else really happens. I can see where folk new to Bluetooth could be lost.

So it shouldn't do anything. We have to pair, configure and do things.

The computer win 10 bluetooth does not see my Plantronics Voyager 5200 headset. No problem with my Acer MC 605. I realize the Dell needs a Bluetooth dongle when I put one it it still does not see the headset. I realize the Dell T1700 is not equipped with bluetooth. I am wondering what I have to add to the Dell to make it like a normal PC that is bluetooth ready.

Just dealt with a bluetooth that didn't see a thing.

Had to change dongles and then it worked. Rare but happens.

I used another make dongle.

I also can test the dongle in my laptop on site and offer a short training course on Bluetooth setup, use and limitations.

If this doesn't help there are cases where the owner installed an overreaching security suite. I don't know what you don't tell. Maybe the OS is just too banged up or too far from stock.
