Bluetooth Mouse & Dongle Questions

May 8, 2009 11:09AM PDT

Please forgive the ignorance of my questions. Also a warning that brevity is not my long suit. Please bear with me.

I currently own a Logitech V220 wireless mouse (NOT Bluetooth). I am using one mouse and one dongle (I swap the dongle) for both my notebook, and netbook (but not simultaneously, lol). I couldn't be happier with the way it performs. My only issue is with the big honkin' dongle sticking out of the side of my laptops a good inch and a half. I'm always afraid I'll break the thing off. Here's what I'd like to do:

Purchase ONE Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse, and buy a PAIR of the generic Bluetooth micro usb dongles (Bluetooth 2.0?) that I've seen online. So I'd like to use ONE V470 with BOTH my notebook AND my netbook (not simultaneously), and just leave a micro usb dongle plugged into each all the time.

Knowing nothing about Bluetooth, I'm wondering if this is doable. I have some vague knowledge about the mouse needing to "pair" with the dongle. Is this an involved process, or pretty much automatic? And would the mouse need to "pair" with each dongle as I turn off my notebook, and fire up my netbook, each and every time?

Thanks in advance for any light you fine folks can shed on this subject for me!

just sharing.

I own the v470 as well as the v450 nano. I'd take the v450 any day. That annoying delay as bluetooth links up is not welcome and bluetooth pairing is still a pain.

Thanks for the reply, Bob!!

You answered my most important issue. I wouldn't like the apparent delay, or the hassle of the pairing.

I like the suggestion of the v450 nano. I had checked it out on Logitech's website before I saw the v470.

But now I have two last questions, this time about the v450 nano you recommended:

Do you know if Logitech sells extra receivers for it, and if they do, will the one mouse work with two different receivers?

Thanks again!!

Found Extra Receivers For the v450 nano

On eBay. So the only question remaining is will the v450 work with two different receivers? I'm guessing they are all the same.

Sorry.

But we have a few v450's here since we love the small receiver. I don't see how to pair it with other receivers.

The bluetooth is the only solution but I will warn you again that the DELAY or "initial jiggle to wake it up" is annoying. The pairing is something only a programmer could love.

Bear in mind that while we have multiple v450 nanos, we have but one v320 and one v470. The v470 Bluetooth mouse has one other small change from the other two. The buttons seem to take more distance to achieve a click. The v320 and v450 are identical in operation.

The v450 and v470 use AA batteries.
The v320 takes AAA batteries.

This is about all I know but all are used here daily.

The Wealth of Knowledge You Possess

Never ceases to impress me.

I should have realized that the receivers would each need to operate on a slightly different frequency, to allow the use of multiple mice in close proximity to each other without interference (duh).

I'll just get 2 v450 nanos. Having two mice isn't the end of the world. Glad they take AA batts instead of AAA.

I can't thank you enough for all the help you've provided, Bob!

You're welcome.

As to me knowing this area, it was just luck that we use these models at home and office. Since I know how important this area is to "being happy with my computer" I tried a little harder to share my experiences.
Cheers,
Bob
