Jul 20, 2009 9:01AM PDT

Hi, thanks for tolerating simple questions. How do I determine if my nearly-new Hp dv4 1028US has bluetooth for an HP bluetooth mouse or indeed if it has bluetooth for such thins as a cellphone.
Like I said thanks for answering my simple questions. Flyinfish

Tried The Owner's Manual? Or...
Jul 20, 2009 9:19AM PDT

Checking in the Device Manager will tell you...

Or you can check the HP website which shows what's installed on your computer.. Here's that link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01509754&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

Or after starting the computer, look in the lower right corner of the computer screen, there should be a Bluetooth icon..

I don't see Bluetooth mentioned in your HP specifications but such information is never a sure thing.. And remember, a standard wireless mouse is still an option as they are sold at most computer stores and work much the same.

Hope this helps.

Bluetooth mouse ready
Jul 20, 2009 10:17AM PDT

Thanks for reply. I've tried looking in manual and device mgr but find no mention of bluetooth except in one area that I can't seem to find my way back to. Here are some specs
HP dv4T 1028US entertainment
2.26 GHz
14.1 inch
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz 3MB L2 Cache Socket P 25W Dual-Core Processor
Windows Vista Home Premium
Memory (RAM):
4 GB 320 GB (yes, it's one of those that came from Circuit City via Big Lots last fall & I think I got lucky & got one with upgrades)
I'm looking at HP's card-slot bluetooth mouse. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Flyinfish

A BlueTooth Manager Should Be Visible..
Jul 21, 2009 1:28AM PDT

..and bluetooth hardware should be installed. As stated earlier, there should be a bluetooth icon in the lower right corner of your monitory screen, the system tray. Since you're not seeing evidence of such and I see no indication of bluetooth in the HP specs for your machine, I'll make a guess it's not part of your package.

Specifically, here are the specific instructions from HP about determining bluetooth availability:

Click Start , Control Panel , Classic View or Network and Internet , and then double-click HP Wireless Assistant . The HP Wireless Assistant opens. The Wireless devices that are installed on your computer display. If you have Bluetooth, you will see Bluetooth listed.

Bluetooth
Jul 21, 2009 3:59AM PDT

Thanks, Grif, I've done that and when I get to Classic View of Control Panel there is a bluetooth symbol but only Wireless LAN shows-up. So I guess none installed.
By the way, is there a page at HP.com or somewhere that I can put in my model & serial #'s to find complete hardware on this notebook ?
Thanks Again for the patience with with someone who's been away since the days of Fortran, Basic etc. Flyinfish

should be on the taskbar
Jul 24, 2009 12:47AM PDT

i have bluetooth on my laptop, and wether it is turned on or off,(default is on) it has an icon in the taskbar. also, if you have bluetooth, you can use any bluetooh device on it like headphones, mice, and phones(might require special software).
