Resolved Question

Blueray players are blocked from connecting to internet.

Apr 30, 2015 11:37PM PDT

Around April 10th, blueray players that have connected for years to wireless router are no longer able to connect. Message on test for bluerays say internet is connect, but players are unable to connect. Wireless router still connects to laptop, printer and cell. ATT said my router is obsolete. At same time, ATT announced it's super speeds. I will not pay for commercial tv, nor repetitious cable channels. ATT wants me off DSL through phone line, which now carries extreme speeds. I battle with them about my lag and speeds constantly. 1.5 mg down and .5mg up is what I pay for, only get 1.3/.31 at best. How can ATT block by bluerays after connecting all this time?

Clarification Request
Is this that Samsung line?

One of the usual is to try 8.8.8.8 for the DNS. ATT and Samsung have screwed this up so many times over the years.

And 1.5M isn't enough for SD on Netflix. Read https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306

Blocked blueray players

Effects 2 samsung and a sony. I haven't had a problem with this until April 10. Netflix worked fine.

So nothing new here.

The issue has plagued users for a very long time. In your case you have no less than 2 issues. ATT, Samsung, the DNS issue and a too slow connection. There are many that will write it worked fine but as the web tells us, it's failed a lot over the years too.

I can't tell if you attempted the usual.

Did everything I knew to try.

Reset modem, unplugged modem, hard reset players, " Nework set complete, but cannot connect to the Internet. Contact your ISP too access Internet". This all coincided with ATT super speed launch. DSL is over phone line, don't laugh...router is net gear, and added an extender net gear to reach down stairs, which worked great until all this happened, and is also not staying connected to internet.

(NT) Did you try the usual DNS change?

Always retain the original settings your were using

This way you can revert w/o issue if there's something else amiss in your system configuration.

Truth be told though, you didn't provide all makes/model numbers of each and every piece of equipment involved, especially modem & router (or combo unit, if that' what you are using). Also, extender, blu ray players would help too. They all have their own issues which can often be addressed separately, but together sometimes if connectivity is the issue. IME it can be extremely helpful to know the firmware version of the modem/router(s) you are using. Routers are inexpensive enough now that even a basic 'N' router may suffice to improve performance a little to keep the ship running. YMMV until we know more of your specs.

In the past, I have circumnavigated the 'hot mess' known as "ATT broadband" <ahem> so many times now, it starts to blur together in an unhealthy way(!)

Another great place for very granular level support for your issues is dslreports.com. Their various user sub-forums have some very kind folks who bailed me out in the past when I was flailing in my approach for tech support Wink. Sometimes you can get an actual ATT tech there too.

Just connected!

I manually input 8888 in IP address, would not connect. Saw your DNS change and reentered 8888 in DNS and I connected. I have to do this on all players...will the IP address automatically change for each player? Thank you!

8888 or 8.8.8.8
May 1, 2015 6:09AM PDT

Here I could tell my router to issue 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 (why is on the web) but it's a mystery why ATT, Samsung and others need this.

PS. If you don't configure the router, you have to change it in the devices.

May it is about the Blu-ray player

Is it possibly related to the Blu-ray Player itslef? It happened to me before, and I updated the hardware, now it works. Maybe you can give this a try.
