Blue screen with Win2K pro on Dell Laptop (Latitude C600)

If I close the lid while the PC is on I get a blue screen with "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area". I have tried changing the power options to "do nothing when I close the lid" but that makes no difference. Is this an OS or a hardware thing? Any suggestions?
