Blue screen/system crash after Pinnacle Tuner installation

Aug 3, 2004 11:30PM PDT

Hi everyone.

Recently I installed a Pinnacle PCTV Stereo Tuner Card on my system (specs see below). I had no problems during installation and the tuner works fine. But the first time I shut the system down , I got a blue screen (apparently bigger as the screen resolution, I couldn't see half of the text), for 1 or 2 seconds, then the system restarted. After new start, everything seemed to work, until (1 or 2 days later), when I wanted to use the recorder, the system crashed again.

There is no apparent conflict in the device manager. There wasn't any problems during driver installation either.

I re-installed the whole system 1 month ago.
Any ideas ? Maybe a conflict with the video card ?
Thanks evryone...

System specifications:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe (Bios updated to 2.0)
AMD Athlon XP 2000
512 DDR Ram (PC 2700)
Hercules ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (with 4.6 Catalyst driver)
Windows XP Professional SP 1 with all updates

Are the motherboard drivers the latest from Asus?

If I'm not mistaken, I used the Nforce 2 drivers from Nvidia, since Asus hasn't released any for a quite a while...

Try another slot, then dive into the EVENT VIEWER to see if there is an EventID and Source that will yield a clue.

Also, you listed some hardware, but didn't list the power supply. Remember you posted in the Hardware Forum, so we lean to hardware reasons.

The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service hung on starting
Aug 9, 2004 5:32PM PDT

Hi Bob.

The only event which might be linked to our issue is "The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service hung on starting", event id 7022 and, around same time (Error code 000000c5, parameter1 000301e8, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 80534ddc), event id 1003. What is that all about ? I'm not familiar with event viewer...

About hardware : the power supply is a no-name 350w. I changed the pci slot. Didn't have any problems since. But then it "only" crashed twice in a week.

Thanks for your efforts, Claus

About events. You can start at http://www.eventid.net to learn about that.

As this is a hardware forum, that 350 Watt PSU is quite strained. If this is some near 2GHz machine with dual drives, 3D card and more, then an occasional crash may be normal.
