Blue Screen-- STOP: c0000218 (Registry File Failure)

by roopie / November 22, 2004 5:26 AM PST

It seems like one crash after another lately. The latest is that I can only boot into Safe Mode. If I try to boot into normal mode I get the error:

"STOP: c0000218 (Registry File Failure) \system root\System32\Config\software or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable."

In safe mode I can't seem to identify what program this this software file belongs to. I can't move it either, as it tells me that the file is being used. How do I fix this problem? Does anyone know? I can't do a System Restore as I get the error message that there are no restore points available. HELP!
