Blue Screen...Ram...

Jul 14, 2007 7:33AM PDT

For the past few weeks I have encountered a serious problem with windows. I have XP

Every time I try to install anything or install the windows updates, a blue screen appears and says that a physical memory dump has taken place.

This happens for virtually every thing I try to install.

What could the problem be? Could it be damaged ram...

I've run multiple virus scans, but to no avail.

Are there any error messages such as "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

Check the event viewer.

In the run box type Eventvwr.msc

Look for "Save Dump" in event log, probably using "system" in left pane, what is the event ID#

The message: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is not in the error message.

The Event ID is: 7

and the description is:

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

Disk Check
Jul 15, 2007 9:24AM PDT

I ran the disk check by typing chkdsk /r into the command prompt.

I restarted the computer so that the disk check could run. When I did, a blue screen came up, told me that the volume was NTFS, volume is clean, and then windows loaded. The whole process took about 5 seconds; nothing was scanned.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all the help.
