BLUE SCREEN ERROR!!!

by YRGREEN530 / May 5, 2005 8:14 AM PDT

Win XP Home Edition SP1
Dell Dimension 2350

Trying to remove spyware/viruses from computer. Saw NO anti-virus installed on computer!!! Manually removed 1 spyware from Add/Remove....computer frooze so I had to do a hard shut down. Turn computer back on after a few seconds and got the following that is below. I tried booting the computer up in ALL the ways you can....and still got same error message. Tried using F11 and Ctrl to reformat XP but I don't think it works with this particular computer. Tried using Reinstallation CD....computer makes noise like the cd is trying to run.....but NOTHING happens. Also, called Microsoft and on their website....nothing seems to be helping. I was wondering what can or needs to be done to resolve this issue. Was also wondering if I disconnet the hard drive (from the motherboard and cable connection directly in hard drive) would that work. Could please get back with me ASAP.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you?ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup option, and then select safe mode.

This same error happened to me over a year ago. Turned out to be a flaky memory module. If you have more than one installed, take one out and try booting. If no luck, switch modules and try again. If it boots up and you do have virus problems, consider a complete reinstall of Windows or at least a System Restore to a time prior to the problem first appearing. I wouldn't consider a repair install as, having tried it once, it broke all of my shortcuts and left the machine a mess.
Good luck.
