blue screen and error

Nov 23, 2004 12:48PM PST

not sure what happened but since installing the new AVG 7 free home on my windows 98se- i get the following blue screen error message (all i wrote was the numbers in the error
OE 0028:FF212b44 in VxD---. i hit any key
and get another blue screen
OE0028:FF1D2D2B in VxD--- application terminated. at this point i have to hit the reset because the comp is locked up. i have plenty of ram- maybe not enough memory at the moment of the error? is there anyway by looking at the codes above to solve this? it happend 3 to 4 times a day.

Lisa,

Exactly when do you get the message? Do you have any indication what program gives it? Does it help to disable the runtime-check in AVG (and only run in on request)?

it happens after the machne has been on 2 or 3 hours- with IE running- zonealarm on- and Propel Accelerator 3.1 running at all times- sometimes yahoo messenger will be on- i think i just disabled the scheduled scan of avg like you said to try- i usually ran it when i wanted but this avg7 was set to rum at 8 am- i unchecked that i think- this one is harder to figure settings. i let the avg 7 uninstall the previous avg 6- now in the programs list avg 6 is listed- but when i click it- it cant find it- however avg 7 doesnt show there or anywhere exept by the clock- i cant even turn it on once i turn it off- unless i reboot. what did I do?it just sais AVG in the add/remove- so i dont know which one its referring to in there.

Two ideas.
Nov 24, 2004 1:15AM PST

1. Propel ... Toss it out for awhile. Ran into it and it was not agreeable with their system.

2. Heat. Remove the case cover and see if heat is an issue.

i removed the cover for the day- no heat problem. i think it was the avg thing- i unchecked something- and so far no crashes. i unchecked the daily scan thing and the automatic update check one- seems fine so far.

If I were to pick one...daily scan.

The daily scan seems to be disagreeable to the DOS based Windows. I can only share my theory is that it runs out of resources and dies.

i agee that the new avg 7 free is hogging my resources- i have it set not to update or scan automatically, however still getting the blue screen only after a few hours of the comp running. i tried disabling the Propel Accelerator 3.1 but still no luck- my dad thinks the harddrive may be going out- hope not , this one is pretty new.

No promises, but...

If you post a Hijackthis log I'll look, but can't do more than note if I see something odd.

"HJT is a very powerful tool and only advanced users should use it. As we do NOT have "Security Experts" in this forum- pls. post your HJT logs in one of the following HJT forums:

Thanks.

Again, no promises, but the log would be interesting.
