Blue-Ray or HD-DVD for a-log TVs?

Mar 30, 2006 3:36AM PST

Is there any point in getting a next-generation DVD player if I still only have an a-log TV (it's a decent flat screen sony)? I know an HDTV would be best, but would it look any better on an a-log?

Unfortunatley, the only way (as of now) to benefit from the HD aspects of the new players will be through an HDMI connection. This eliminates your analog TV and even a lot of HDTVs from just a year or so ago. I'm pissed about this "enforced" limitation, so I will boycott the new players and not buy one until I hit a wall where DVD movies I want can only be purchased in the new format. Anyways, the first generation players won't be as good as they will be.

Don't matter

Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, XYZ-HD, LMNOP-HD...apparently none will give HD through anything but HDMI. But, I do understand that the new HD players will give you SD playback, so you could just get one as a normal DVD player until you upgrade your TV.

I guess you "N' doesn"t work thats ok my spelling isnt that great either. Your anolog t.v. will work fine with an entry level player . buying an expensive d.v.d. player will not improve picture quality good luck stewart

hd starts with the hdtv/monitor first and foremost. hd dvd is a format without a standard as of yet. until everyone gets on the same page, it would be best to take a wait and see approach.
