Blu Ray using PS3

Dec 26, 2010 4:02AM PST

I'm having some issues with the picture while watching Blu Rays on my PS3. I've noticed on other tvs that when watching a Blu Ray the characters movements are very crisp, and almost seem as if they are "gliding" when they move. I was at Best Buy recently and they were showing Dark Knight on a floor model and this was very prevalent. On my tv set, i'm not seeing the same type of movement, it looks similar to a standard DVD. Are there additional settings changes I need to make or am I crazy? I am watching on a Samsung HL67A750 DLP.

A lot of times at stores, they will have TV sets with dynamic contrast and other things that are switched on and create this kind of effect. Personally, I hate it. It destroys the illusion. It makes certain elements of the movie appear to be separate from the background. It makes it look like the early days of special effects, before blue and green screen technology.

But long story short, this is typically a function of your TV's post processing abilities, not your player.

I have the PS3 for BD play and while it's better than some, I read your post TWICE and you seem to write it was the same at the store.

If you want cinema quality I fear you'll have to get real film.

What you probably saw at the store was a blu-ray player on a tv with motion processing technology. Samsung call theirs AutomotionPlus, while Sony calls it Motionflow. There is no blu-ray capable of providing that "gliding," technically known as dejudder, effect. If you enjoyed that feature, then you should look into purchasing a tv set with this feature.
