Question

BLU-RAY SOUND ISSUES

Apr 7, 2015 9:45PM PDT

Dear all,

Need some guidance re a curious issue I'm experiencing of late.

I have a blu-ray player connected to LED TV. My hi-fi amplifier does not accept optical-in, so I connected it with TV via the TV's audio out 3.5mm jack.

Saw many normal DVD's.....the sound is fantastic.

Problem is, when I watch an action movie via 'Blu-ray', high-frequency sounds (during a bomb blast for example) sometimes are produced with a 'crackle' or 'hiss' from the tweeters. The tweeters are ok, since this crackling is audible even once volume is low.

Is there some kind of setting I need to effect on the TV?

Blu-rays are bought online as new, quite cheap, but can this be the reason?

Thanks for assisting!

Without the HiFi does the TV crackle? If not, I'd try reducing the signal level on that 3.5mm out jack. Most TVs don't offer this so try something like http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155954-VC20-Volume-Control/dp/B00001P4XH/

No. This is not a sure thing. But it's one of the likely areas where the input to the HiFi may be getting a little too much drive.

Hi Bob,

My TV can regulate output level coming out from the 3.5mm jack.

Will check & revert Happy

You could also try and change the audio output format from DTS to either Dolby or PCM. This may resolve the issue
