Blu ray Playstation 3

Apr 28, 2008 6:41AM PDT

I have a playstation 3 and when I stop the DVD, power off, power on, the DVD starts over at the beginning. I have a friend and he has the same issue with his Sony BluRay player. Is this just a Sony issue or do all Bluray players NOT remember where you left off like standard DVD players?

I thought the PS3 just had an update to fix that???

Ok just checked bluray.com:
Yes, no & some!! DVD's yes, BD well yes there was an update for the PS3 BUT it only works on some BD's (dumb) !!!! My troublesome samsung bd-p1200 has always had resume play & I think most other stand-a-loan BD players do to.

where to start...
Apr 29, 2008 5:23AM PDT

Took about 1 1/2 months for samsung to come out with a fix to play POTC-3, about 1 month for '3:10 to Yuma' & a month for 'Live free Die Hard'. This last update 2.3v REALLY Fu^cked up my player, movies that played fine before get ejected "Unable to play disc". It took me about 15+ tries to get 'I am Legend' too load, 'Lost' s3 disc 1 took 3 or 4 tries, 'Category 7' took over 20 tries & over 1 week to get it too load, but the player has NO troubles playing DVD's, just some BD's.

I have called samsung they sent me a cd-r of 2.3v to reinstall but still I have the same troubles. The player is under the Part warranty But the labor cover is over & I would have to pay $85 + shipping for them to fix this & that does not guaranty that when the next update happens it would not happen all over agian.

I have figerd out if I put in a disc that loads on the 1st try & then watch about 10 mins of the movie, eject that & putin one of the disc's that has troubles it then will load on the 1st try, SOMETIMES
Sad

I am hoping whenever the next update comes out it MAY fix the problems of my player. Others are not having such bad problems but most are now having trouble navigating on screen menus & "Unable to play disc" on disc here & there, mostly homemade BD discs.

If I keep having troubles by when the Sony BD350 comes out I will probly get one of those, I may wait a month or two to see if the price comes down from the MSRP of $400 & then give the the samsung to my mother. The samsung plays all 92 BD's I have, but you have to "work" to get some movies to play.

I will not get a PS3.

Why not a PS3

..

power usage

Gaming system, I would then would feel obligated to get some games, I already have a 360 & fine with that.

The Sony BD350 is a very some unit.

PS3 does not have 5.1 or 7.1 analogs out

Some PS3 are "noisy" (fan)

PS3 is not very good at DVD play back, one reason I got the sammy1200 is because it has the HQV chip for DVD play back.

Download the latest firmware

Sony has a site for where you can download the latest firmware which will fix this problem. Do a Google search and you will find it. I downloaded the latest version and it fixed this problem. The previous version allowed the PS3 to upscale to 1080p.

There is a firmware to help with this situation. If you have wifi through your ps3, you can download the firmware. Or you can go online with your PC to the playstation website and get the firmware. Now that I have downloaded the firmware, I believe the firmware is called 2.3, the ps3 plays the bluray movie from where ever the scene was when I powered off. Hope this helps.

Sorry for not reading if this has been answered. Are you flipping the switch in the back to turn off the power? If so, that is the reason why. If you leave the power on, but turn the console off, it should work just fine. Otherwise you have a faulty PS3

You see... If you turn off the PS3 using the switch, the virtual memory that saved the DVD/Blu-ray will be erased.

PS3 Switch!!

NO, NO, NO! If you install the latest PS3 firmware upgrade (actually 2 versions ago), the PS3 will: 1) Remember where your DVD stopped playing and continue from that point, even if you eject the disc and totally power it off; 2) If you leave the disc in the PS3 and totally power it off and power it up, the PS3 will continue from where it stopped. I own one and I'm living proof that it works.
