Question

Blu-Ray Players resume versus restart after timeout

Aug 21, 2018 5:06PM PDT

I've tried at least three brands and four models of Blu-ray players. All will, after a pause that leads to a timeout shutdown, resume a DVD from where it was paused; but will restart a Blu-Ray disc from the start, requiring going through the start up menu, previews, etc. etc. My wife yelled at me yesterday for bringing home a Blu-Ray disc because she wants to put on a familiar movie when doing work in the kitchen, pausing it and doing something else somewhere else, and going back in a few hours, and she hates blu ray discs because the restart from the beginning makes this unworkable. Yet I can't find a brand, model or a setting that resumes a Blu-ray disc from the pause point, or even one that lets me adjust the timeout. Does anyone know of a brand/model that will resume rather than restart a Blu-ray disc or has a setting that can extend the timeout to "never"? Or is there a technical reason that this is impossible for a Blu-ray disc?
