Blu-Ray disc DVD recorder for in store on 1520

May 29, 2009 2:35PM PDT

Is it possible to upgrade my DVD player/recorder to a Blu-Ray DVD player/recorder in a nine-month-old Inspiron 1520? Does Dell even make a DVD player/recorder?

Thank you

The 1520 came in many configurations so while everyone knows you can install a BR PLAYER with DVDRW (the recording part of the device) there is a big issue with BR (Bluray) and here it is -> It takes a lot of horsepower to play BR. You gave the slightest of detail about your 1520.

I'm going with BOTH answers.

Yes, you can put it in. No it's a bad idea since the laptop may not play BR smoothly.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the reply. I run Windows XP home edition for the OS, 4 GB RAM DDR2 @667 MHz, Intel T8300 (2.4 GHz/800 MHz FSB/3 MB cache). I'm not very computer savvy so I was not sure if the CD/DVD writer could be upgraded to a Blu-Ray at all. I'm not sure if the graphics card matters, but the graphics card in the machine is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. I do know that the graphics card is not a very good one.

Are internal Blu-Ray players/recorders available through Dell or would I be able to find a generic manufacturer? If so, would there be any conflicts between the Dell machine and a generic media player?

Thanks again for the reply, I appreciate any help you have to offer.
