BLU-RAY COMPATIBILITY

Oct 23, 2008 3:36AM PDT

Soundtrack support is comprehensive on the PANASONIC DMP-BD35. It has onboard decoding for all high-resolution soundtrack formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, so you don't need a new receiver to take advantage of the improved audio quality.******* My problum is I own a older sony es da30 receivr (W/O HDMI) with the best audio input (thatI know of)is optical. What is my best route for achieving best audio from this or any blu-ray player? Would the PAN's analog audio stereo output help? Or is optical still my only choice? Thanks in advance, RON D.

can you

return it & get the 55.. optical can not carry HD audio & the 35 has just 2.0 analogs out so you would be limited to 2.0 HD audio only.
The internal decoding (on a player with 2.0 analogs outs only) is realy only good if you have an HDMI reciever that does not decode HD audio's.

****I can not find any info on your reciever, does it have 5.1 or 7.1 analogs?

My sony is only 5.1 with out multi-chl.inputs.I got it new in 98' and im not ready to upgrade just yet, sill researching and learning abuot blu-ray players before i take that road.. The sony receiver model # is STR-DA30ES. If optical is my only choice if I do get the pan.35,will the audio sound the same as my standard DVD player?

optical is indeed your best choice

id only go up to BD-55 if your receiver has multi-ch analog inputs. Otherwise, stick with optical.
