What are some guidleines that you think most bloggers should follow, if any?

Do you have any recommendations for setting up a blog for someone who isn't running their own server or using a special domain name?

Re: Blogging

People often as me if I have a blog. I always say that I probably don't have anything worthwhile to write about.

However, your podcast has inspired me to try blogging software, if for no other reason than to try new technology.

My main concern about installing blogging software on my web host's server is security. If I install a popular blogging software on my web host and later a security exploit emerges for that software, would it be possible for someone to make a bot that would look for and attack websites with the vulnerable blogging software?

I imagine that one day we could see a bunch of blogs running the same software being disabled or defaced.

Thanks for another great podcast.

Just so you know

I went ahead and started a blog on the WordPress site. I like all of the aspects that I have control over and how they are presented to me. I'm not new to blogging, but I wanted to do something different than I have in the past. I just have to figure out if I want to restrict my content or just write about everything (like I've done in the past).
If anybody wants to see it (and possibly offer feedback) it's rtemp.wordpress.com.

Thanks for the awesome pocast as always.

Blog Stupid???
May 3, 2006 4:15AM PDT

im blog stupid. All i want is a wordpress blog but one that I host? I didnt phrase that right maybe. Dreamweaver is not new to me but still fresh. I went from dreamweaver 5 to dreamweaver 8 the school I work for was updated. I would like to add a wordpress blog, since those seem to be much easier to update quickly but I'm not sure how?. I looked at the directions but it only ended in me asking more questions. Is there a book or website that takes you step by step. on how to set this up.? Or maybe a book. I'm looking for wordpress for the seriously stupid?

Some pretty broad questions without the pretty broad
May 26, 2006 10:39AM PDT

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about starting up a blog, but have no idea where to begin.

I happen to be a good writer who's completely stupid about computers. Writing the text will be no problem; it's making the site look not-so-amateurish that's my main concern.

Should I just go ahead and sign up at blogspot or something? I realize there are a lot of similar blog sites/programs. Any advice on which is the best-run, best-looking, etc.?

More generally, I've read that there are now more than 27 million blogs. Very few of these actually get read by substantial numbers of strangers. Any thoughts on what makes a successful blog successful?

Sorry I'm posting to this thread way later than the original post.
