General discussion

blocking sites?

Feb 7, 2006 7:53AM PST

ok so i'm trying to log into myspace.com, i can get to the main page, but when i enter my email and password, i have a long wait and then 'problem loading page' appears stating:

The connection has timed out

The server at login.myspace.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I can get into it from other computers and have always been able to log in before on my mac, so i don't think it's the site's fault.

my internet is deffinately plugged in and i have no problems with any other sites

but i'm not too sure about firewalls. i've gone to system preferences, made little snitch stop preventing outgoing network connection, tried system prefs>sharing>firewall and it says that firewall is turned off.

i'm very confused. is there something else blocking me from logging on?

im running on tiger, g4 imac, 700mhz processor, 320mb ram, this is my modem info:
Modem Information:

Modem Model: Dash2
Interface Type: USB
Modulation: V.92
SKU Name: Euro
Hardware Version: 1.0F
Firmware Version: APPLE VERSION 2.6.6
Driver: InternalUSBModem.kext (v2.6.6)
Country: B4 (United Kingdom)

not sure if that's relevant.
anyway, any help with this conundrum would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, from daniel.

the more I hear about myspace.com the more it seems to be a problem
I think the problem is not with your machine or your modem (could you only get a USB one? Ethernet is better for the Mac) but with the site and they way it is constructed and/or lack of bandwidth.
The fact that you can go elsewhere would indicate that your internet configurations are correct.
Does it do the same with the Internet Explorer browser (did I say that out loud??? Happy

still haven't been able to fix this problem. i'm sure it isn't the fault of myspace, my friends can log onto their accounts, they can log onto mine, i can log into mine on the pcs at college and i always used to be able to log on.

i never had this problem before it was always fine. I have used every browser i can find, including internet explorer, firefox, oper, camino, safari...
always the same problem: takes an etertnity to load and then it comes up with a page saying

i don't have a clue about firewalls on my mac, anyway to monitor the firewalls and turn them off/ check theyre not blocking me from logging into myspace?
or could it be spyware? my friend mentioned that sometimes spyware can do this sort of thing, but again i don't have a clue about that nor how to monitor it.

i use myspace quite alot for my music and this problem is cutting me off from some of my contacts. very annoying.

so, anyone got any other ideas as to what to do?

but I bet your friend has a PC and is running some flavor of Windows.
Turn off your firewall by going to the System Preferences and choosing File Sharing. Click the Firewall tab and switch it off. Check myspace again.
What do myspace say about the problem?

Could be that this site has something that is considered Windows specific and is preventing you from entering.
