Question

Blocking Minecraft Multiplayer on the network

Apr 1, 2018 3:05AM PDT

Hello everyone!

So my litthe brother has started to spend too much time playing Minecraft muktiplayer servers. I need any possible way to block all of the servers he is playing. This is a Huawei router, so if you have any advise or something that can help please send it.
P.S. He is playing on cracked servers.

Thank you everyone!

Now that's a problem. To block a site on the router (if it's possible with the model you have, check the user manual) you need to know the IP-address.

The alternative is to block it on his PC/laptop/tablet/phone. On Windows device that means installing parental control software or modifying the hosts file or configuring the firewall, making his account a non-administrator account and password protecting all administrator accounts.

I found the IP already but I am not sure about ability to block the IP on the router settings.
The secont option is quite difficult at this situation because I cannot acces his computer, if I am able to do this from my own it would be ok.

Turning off the router or the modem is a good solution also, with the small disadvantage that it blocks everything for everybody using it.

Everything you do can be circumvented with a simple 4G dongle, allowing your brother to use a mobile connection like his phone uses on his PC. Using his phone for tethering is possible also. That depends on his digital competencies.
Or - if you can't block it on his laptop or tablet - he can simply take that device with him to a friend and play there, circumventing your router.

Once you found the user manual of your E5186, also check if it offers MAC filtering.

It's a quite common feature. It lets you totally block (or allow) Internet traffic from specific machines. For your brothers PC turn it off at - say - 10 pm, and you know he can't do anything anymore online. Next morning turn it on again.

It might even have the option to make a scheduling, so you don't have to do it yourself each night.

There is an MAC filtering but it doesn't allow to specify the time for blocking.

Looks like all or nothing.

Another way is to change the SSID and password for the following reason. "You didn't follow the rules." You'll get internet when you agree and follow the rules.
