Not a simple answer

Some folder, by design simply "shared" by default eg "shared Folders".
The best way is to down load "Microsoft security analyser" and it will asses your risk and tell you what services and things to do to stop access to your computer.
The main services to stop are the UDPnP service - however, some P2P programs emulate this service so be warned. Another word of warning, dont tinker with your services and security settings unless you know what you are doing.
Use a firewall program like Zonealarm.

Install a Software Firewall
Jun 3, 2005 3:00AM PDT

Firstly, I'm a little confused why would you want to install a file sharing program and then block it?

The easiest way to allow or block any program from accessing the internet is via a software firewall. One free and a very good piece of software is "Outpost Firewall" v1.0. In the default mode "rules wizard" this will prompt you the first time any program tries to access the internet, you then have the option to say yes or no.
