The problem on the Canon A610 was caused by some defective CCD sensors that Canon bought from Sony.
That problem does not apply to your SD1000.
I would not repair that camera because the SD1000 did not have Image Stabilization.
Later models of that camera do have Image Stabilization.
The very latest model of that camera (the SD1300) has already been announced.
So you may be able to pick up a SD1200 (last years model) for a discounted price.
Now is a good time to check the stores, as they will be wanting to make room for the new SD1300.
..
I have a Powershot SD1000 and recently the LCD screen went blank with all icons and pics still being able to be viewed prior to the failure. However, now all my pics turn out blank. I looked for solutions online and it gave me 2 options. Hit display (that did nothing) and to send it in for repairs. Now I've been reading the forum posted about the "Blank Screen on a Canon Powershot A610" and read thru most of the first page of replys. But I am a mother and I dont have time to be reding every thread. I noticed one that gave a list of products that had malfuntion issues with the dead CCD/blank LCD.
My problem is the exact same except with this newer model. I called canon and he told me to do the repair quote on their site and it said estimated cost of 129.00 plus shipping and handling and taxes d/t my camera being out of warranty. My thought is this- If I could afford to pay this amount for repairs...I would prefer to just go and buy a new camera. I dont know much about cameras malfunctions or costs. So anything would help.
If anyone knows anything more about this problem or who may have some advice or even experiences the same problem. Please feel free to respond. Thank you in advance!
