Question

Blackberry Curve keeps crashing?

by symph0nix / July 22, 2011 7:34 AM PDT

I have a refurbished Blackberry Curve (either 8330 or 8530) that I got about 5 months ago from a swap-out through Sprint. Recently, it started rebooting itself whenever I tried to use Facebook, Twitter or the internet. Specifically, the screen glitches and then it shuts off completely, and then reboots as if I had taken out the battery (it essentially looks like this -> http://ringtones.crackberry.com/files/u10880/screenshot2010011511445.png). It didn't start crashing until I installed the most recent update for Twitter For Blackberry and it generally only crashes when I use that particular app, but it's also rebooted while using Facebook or the internet, and when I tried using different Twitter apps (UberTwitter and Seesmic- I didn't try any others). It's crashed at least once every day for the last few weeks since I installed the update, and sometimes multiple times over the course of an hour.
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? The only thing I've attempted was switching Twitter apps, which didn't do anything at all. Can this be fixed or is it a lost cause?

Have you tried a battery pull? With your phone on, remove the battery for 30 seconds, then put it back in.
You should also check how much free memory you have. Go to Options > Status. What do you have listed for File Free?

For issues involveing specific programs I usually find that an OS upgrade cures it, no matter whether it's new or refurb.

Plug it into Blackberry Desktop Manager and follow the options to upgrade OS. All of the phone data will be gone so make you to back up your data on your computer first.
