Blackberry

May 28, 2004 2:07AM PDT

Can someone please explain to me the advantages/disadvantages of getting a Blackberry? Everyone I've asked who has one thinks it great, but I know there must be drawbacks. Also, when comparing it to Trio, etc, what's the best way to go?

Advantages vs Palm
1. total freedom from stylus
2. Blackberry built with communicationfirst, pda second

Disadvantages vs Palm
1. Not as many specialized applications built for BB
2. Does not come with its own PDA desktop, must use outlook or lotus notes
3. Palm built with PDA needs first, communication second

To me, I had a kyrocera smart phone that I just tossed for the blackberry 7280. It came down to weight, feel, and the fact so many of my corporate clients have had very well done deployments of the blackberry. I think it comes down to a very personalized decision. My husband has the treo 600,loves it.

The battery life of the Blackberry stinks. My mom has a Blackberry 7130g and I think it is pretty sweet, but the battery life is horrible (on the 7130g anyway). And the typing system takes a little getting used to. But, if you were looking for a good phone, not something to replace your PDA (if you have one) and things like that, I would go with the Blackberry. But if you were looking for a PDA phone than go with the Treo.
