mere rumor

The rumor exists but the truth behind it is pretty lacking. Microsoft has not verified anything and the pictures that you are referring to could easily be photoshopped. I fully expect MS to release a larger HDD as an accessory but I doubt HDMI will be included because of the limits that the current hardware present to outputting a digital signal.

Um actually

I don't know about a black X-Box but there have been pictures leaked online showing the back of a 360 and a 360 motherboard with HDMI ports that are pretty clearly not photoshopped and after the leak MS confirmed that some time in late spring or early summer (probably May) they're going to release a new 360 with an HDMI port and a 65 nm CPU (as opposed to the current 90nm) that will run cooler thanks to it's smaller size meaning the fans won't have to work as hard meaning a quieter 360 and yea it'll probably be released with or alongside the 120GB hard drive. The updated system is currently code-named Zephyr but will obviously still be the 360 when it's released. It makes since really to include an HDMI port now that the 360 is capable of running games in 1080p and has that nifty little HD-DVD drive since not all TV's have a VGA port and not all that do accept a 1080p signal through VGA. Actually it makes since just for those of us who don't have VGA ports on their TV and want a digital signal instead of using component cables. Anyway that's the facts so if you want a 360 you should probably wait for the Zephyr, if I hadn't known about this I probably would have had one a month ago.
