Question

black screen of death help!

Feb 14, 2015 7:33PM PST

Hey. Can anyone help me. Ive got a dell inspiron n5010 laptop. Ive had various issues with including error messages and slowness over the past few months. The other day it turned off without warning and whej I switched it it did a repair scan. This took a few hours and then it proceeded to move files here there and everywhere and mentioning registery. That took 6 hours! Not seen anything like it before. Next day turned it on and the dreaded black screen of death hit me! Ive tried everything possible but to no avail. Done the wondows repair, safe mode doesnt work, last know configuration doesnt exist, put the original dell disc in to run repairs and still nothing. Run the EPSA memory scan and it usually shuts down half way through. Its had heat problems in the past but its no where near as hot as it used to be so I cant see it due to over heating. Even reset the bios. Still nothing

Any ideas!!?

Scott

The usual Windows BSOD is blue, not black. So it's unclear what you get.
And much more is unclear, like "various issues", "error messages", "move files here, there and everywhere" and "mentioning registery", and "run repairs and still nothing".

But if the memory scan shuts down half way through, it's still a hardware issue. And it could very well be heat. I'd do a thorough cleaning of the fans and the inside, and refresh the heat compound. If you feel you can't do that yourself, find a repair shop.

As more and more folk move to laptops the more I see laptops that have never been cleaned. A can of canned air could deprive service shops of a few billion here and there.
