Question

Black screen after F8 and F11 options. Monitor out of range

Jul 16, 2013 9:58PM PDT

I did change screen resolution and got straight away black screen with small blue box in the middle..."out of range". Yes is did the many things F8, shift F8, the only other option I am given is F11 but we upgraded to 8 so this is no option to go back to factory settings. Do not forget II have that black screen and nothing else... Can anybody out there help me. Thanks

Did you try Safe Mode and set it to something in range?

I can't offer more given the slim details.

No way to get into safe mode on windows 8 unless one is sign
Jul 17, 2013 2:23AM PDT

Well that is the problem... No way I can get into safe mode. We start of with a black screen which says F8.. But this does not work in windows 8 neither does shift F8...then we have a quick few words followed by question if I want to reboot with F11 key...no way I am doing that as factory settings are 2 window versions behind and then I get the black screen with,...no signal. I hear the computer whirring away and before one asks...yes I tried with a different screen. I know what happened...I tried to change the screen resolution to the highest setting but immediately got black screen and no way to get into windows properly.
Any help would be great

Then you have discovered
Jul 17, 2013 2:29AM PDT

You have re-discovered this new OS is still a work in progress. I too have issues with it in regard to a laptop maker's failure to create recovery media. The maker says it's a MSFT issue and MSFT says it's a maker issue.

I had to create my own system.

It appears you have re-discovered the other problem. Hope you have a backup and am not relying on Windows 8 yet.
Bob

PS. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode covers the usual but as you write, this is dead.

Are you saying you can not see this screen?

No way to get in windows 8

No, I cannot sign in. Screen stalls before that point! We used windows 8 since it came out without any problems, well apart I never liked it for its convolluted ways.

Some luck by plugging it in to our TV screen. BUT
Jul 18, 2013 12:07AM PDT

After resetting creen resolution, which we only could do for our TV screen, it was back to the same problem on our computer screen....meaning, the resolution was not kept in windows 8.

So why not, while in that mode system restore to before this?
