Black Horizontal Line on Samsung 50" Plasma

by rkba85 / December 4, 2011 2:51 AM PST

Bought my Samsung PN50C550 50" plasma in April 2010. A few weeks ago a black horizontal line appeared across the screen. Looks to be about one set of pixels high and stretches all the way across the screen.

Good luck. My 50 inch PN7000 was under warranty and it was still impossible to get anyone at Samsung to do anything timely even while escalating to Executive Customer Service where they told me there was no one higher up the chain to speak to. Five weeks after my line appeared I should be getting a new TV.

Hi guy's , I have a 51inch Samsung plasma tv ( model # PN51D440A5D)
& I have about 8 horizontal black lines on the screen . I contacted SHOP JIMMY
& they told me that the Y buffer is bad I changed it together with the Y sustain and logic board , but the black horizontal lines still remains in the same spot as previous
Can you please advice to diagnosed or the panel /screen is no good thanks.

I have to guess you are trying to avoid the panel.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / April 16, 2014 10:35 PM PDT

You replaced most of the parts so what's left are cables and connections and yes, the panel. I don't think self repair when you see this is a good idea. The self repair person may explode as they invest more time and money and it still needs more time and money.

Unplug and plug all connections between control boards and panel. You can research "tab bond failures" on google and it's not a Samsung only issue. I see those bonds fail across all makers.

If you changed something and it doens't solve the problem, and your tech manual doesn't tell what to check fo a diagnosis, you change something else until it's solved. Seems like the next thing to try is the screen indeed.

Horizontal Black Line
by Rovertrrap / August 14, 2014 1:07 AM PDT

Hi,I have a 40 inch LED Samsung TV UE40 ES 6800which is 19 months old,a think black line appeared on mine a quarter of the way from the bottom.I bought this TV as I had read so many good reports about it,I wish I hadn't.4 months after I bought it I kept getting 'Sound Drops',a complete new Logic Board was put in which seemed to cure the problem for a short while but it started again a few months later so another new Logic Board was put in,this time it seems to have cured it but now I've got the black line.I know it's out of warranty but this is terrible having all these faults in 19 months.I'm having a terrible time with Samsung, they're useless!!!
I have spoken to the retailer and we know about The European Sales of Goods Act('m in The UK) but I want to see what happens with Samsung.Has anyone got any thoughts?-I will never buy a Samsung product again!!!.

Same issue; 50" Plasma; also 2010-definitely a known issue
by calamundsen / March 19, 2013 2:05 AM PDT

I have the same issue. I have a PN50C7000YF. It is exactly 2 years old. Has been used less than 100 hours and horizontal black lines are appearing in greater and greater numbers in the bottom of the panel. They are all in the area of the bottom chip on the y-buffer. Connectors have been cleaned, but that didn't help. I was hoping it would be the y buffer, however, Samsung agents and several techs (referred to me by Samsung) are all telling me it is the panel. They are all a little cagey, but they all admit under their breath that Samsung is aware of the issue - and that it is the panel. Yet Samsung is so far unwilling to do anything about it. $2000 for less than 100 hours is ridiculous. I will keep chasing Samsung for a resolution. In the meantime, if anyone is successful fixing this problem in a Samsung plasma panel by replacing the y buffer, please let me know.

same problem
by Arlie1180 / March 30, 2013 6:18 PM PDT

I paid 1000+ dollars for a Samsung 50 inch plasma on 3 - 28 - 10. 3 years and 1 day black line of doom appear two inches from the top. from what I'm reading so far I'm 90 percent positive it's not the X or Y but if the solution is a new TV or expensive I guarantee I'll never buy another Samsung product of any kind ever! which is disappointing because I did like the tv untill now. honestly would just like my TV working but haven't been able to contact anyone at samsung except live chat and that was completely useless. model# PN50c590g4fxz. Type ny02
