Bios update for gateway 200ARC

Followed instructions on gateway support,but can not access a: prompt. Have no floppy drive in this laptop,only DVD rom and USB.

By your comment on the floppy I'm guessing the recovery system for BIOS requires a floppy. If so, get one and then you can do this.

If not, get to the gateway site and look for repair centers.

I have been to the site, that is where the problem is.Their second option is to download all files onto a cd or dvd, leaving out the .exe file. Put cd in drive and reboot computer when computer boots wait for a: prompt and type in 420301.exe. Only prompt I will get is c prompt.Do you have any other ideas as to how I can update the bios in this is a Gateway 200ARC running windows Xp right now.

So it runs XP now? Stop. Do not update the BIOS.

If you are getting a C prompt that means the BIOS is working. Time to stop and not break this laptop.

PS. I have never in over a decade guided anyone on BIOS updates except to defer to the maker's instructions as one wrong move and it's toast. Let's let the maker take the heat.
