bin Laden - Bankrupt the USA

"We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah," bin Laden said in the transcript.

I don't recall where or when, but many years ago, before
bin Laden, I read this same thing coming from that part of
the world. A lot of truth to that policy. All they have
to do is make a threat, and we spend millions to guard
against it. They throw up a training camp, populate
it with a few itinerates, and we spend millions in
missiles to blow up some rocks. And they take full
advantage of our kindler, gentler, PC way of conducting
warfare. The fact that they put no value on human life
gives them total advantage.

Until we accept and agree to live with a few risks, they
can/will continue to force us to spend to protect against
the ghosts they can create with a few words.

Hi, Del.

Odd you should think it worthwhile to "live with a few risks" for economic reasons, but not to preserve personal liberties being trampled in the nme of "security."

Odd that you can separate things..........

If you think the "trampeling" isn't costing us economically,
you've lost sight of something.

How much is it costing the taxpayer, and how much is it
impacting business and the economy, just with the airport
security alone. We're searching/intruding upon millions
of people, rather than be non-PC and profile.

We're trying to come up with ways to inspect everything at
the Ports of Entry, rather than develop human intelligence
and do some real spying/infiltration at the packing points.
Might offend an ally, so we spend untold $$'s.

And all the bin Laden's need to do is suggest they may
do something.

As individuals, we accept the risk posed by drinking
drivers on a daily basis, with no great sweat. I think,
as a Nation, we need to accept risks also.

Didn't the Soviet Union try that not so long ago?

And I seem to remember that it turned out okay. Let's not lose sight of our strengths. If we manage Middle East policy well and pressure the Palestinians and the Israelis equally to reach a Peace Settlement this will eventually subside. More than anything a Palestinian state which has its own borders and security and an Israeli state that has the same can lead to something resembling stability. Israel needs to trade land for Peace and the Palestinians need to trade anarchy for Peace. If Arafat is out of the equation there is perhaps a chance of this happening.

I think for the time being, its wishful thinking

In reply to: Didn't the Soviet Union try that not so long ago?

due to the nature of beliefs held by the radical groups in that area in which theyll settle for nothing less than the demise of Israel.
