General discussion

big problem(well for me that is)

Sep 2, 2007 9:37AM PDT

I made a mistake the other day and downloaded a supposed to be spyware after I was told I had a virus, now after I unistalled it I have no wallpaper. I have gone into the display and tried change it back to my wallpaper and I thought it was the dreaded blue screen, but I can change the color and when I sign off the blue screen disappear and my wallpaper is there. When I was under the display panel everything was grey out.

Web Content Displayed
Sep 2, 2007 11:08AM PDT

My guess is that your desktop is trying to display web content.

On Display Properties, under the "Desktop" tab, click on the "Customize Desktop..." button. Then click on the "Web" tab and make sure there are no web pages checked.

Hope this helps.

There are no boxes checked. The only thing I can do is change colors.

System Restore
Sep 3, 2007 11:20AM PDT

My only other suggestion is to try a system restore to a point before the spyware infection.

I've already tried the system restore. I went back as far as aug.4 and still nothing.

You have a nice machine there.

Did you follow the Customized Tune up tips PCPitstop advised? Very important that you click on each and follow the prompts.

Some additional help in improving your machine as follows:

If you do not use Office Speech, go to start>settings>Conrolpanel>Regional and Languages settings>Checkmark the icon "Turn off advanced Text Services."

If it was my machine I would uninstall the following software:

Cyber Defender.
_________

Registry Easy v3.0
_________

Eusing Free registry Cleaner
_________

AOL tool bar
________

Verizson BB Toolbar
________

Adobe 7.0 (out of date) and a resource hogger.
I would replace Adobe with Foxit Reader from the site offered here that does exactly the same thing and is a small software program and NOT a resource hogger.
http://www.download.com/3000-2079_4-10634896.html
________

PC Doctor
________

Realplayer(another resource hogger)
________

I would install the following:

AVG Antispyware 7.5 http://free.grisoft.com/
________

Cleanup 4.5 http://www.scanwith.com/CleanUp_download.htm
________

Spybot Search and Destroy.
http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
________

Windows Media Player 11 (Replacing Realplayer earlier recommended to uninstall)
________

Registry Cleaners are in my opinion not good to use, if you download and install Cleanup 4.5.2 running regularly after extended surfing it will keep your computer running satisfactorily.

I hope the above helps you.

kind regards,
