What type of mouse, PS/2, USB, wireless?
Further tests to try;
1] PS/2 mouse. Try a USB mouse.
2] USB mouse, try a different USB port, and/or try a different USB mouse. Usually no software setup required.
3] Wireless mouse, check the batteries, (strange things can happen when they are low), make sure the receiver is not obstructed. If you have a wireless landline phone handset nearby, try moving that away. I understand some frequencies can clash.
See if any of that helps.
All of a sudden, my desktop mouse or the software it controls has gone nutty. (Windows XP). On various programs, most notable the email (Mozilla) and browser (Chrome) is completing a second function when single clicked. For example, I click to highlight an email header and it goes one step further and opens the email. I delete one email and it goes ahead and deletes the one above it too.
On the browser, I hit the back button and it goes back one then quickly moves on and goes back two. I've checked mouse settings, removed the hardware and reconnected. I've rebooted. I've sprayed the optical mouse innards with air. Nothing helps. Any ideas?
