Beyond the "normal" battery life,

by what_now3 / March 19, 2004 12:27 AM PST

any reports on HP, IBM, Dell, Gateway, Acer, Emachine, etc. having problems holding a charge?

Some iBook owners of just a few MONTHS are experiencing, uplugged-use, battery drain in 15 minutes not the advertised Xn of hours.

Thanks for the read.

YES! Easy to replicate too. Just drain and charge the battery a few hundred times.

that does not answer the problem of the new machines or that it remains after battery changes.

Only 50 laptops at the office.

Sadly I don't have a big base of machines to draw experience from outside the 50 that we have at an office I work with.

When a new battery doesn't solve the issue, then we get to decide if the unit is under a warranty and a new mainboard usually cures the battery issue.

Remember that IF a battery fails in a not unusual way of drawing a lot of power (shorted cell), then the motherboard charging circuit could become overtaxed and ... fry.

The big lesson is to keep that warranty up on a machine until you can take the chance that you can let it go.
