Beware of XP sp3

by Jazz_Lover / July 24, 2008 7:21 AM PDT

Microsoft still has much work to do in order adequately resolve the issues with this update to XP. Among the problems encountered with the update are a possible degradation in the performance of applications, windows failing to open and loss of wireless internet connectivity. On five separate occasions executable file KB936929 was deployed and at least on four occasions a system restore was required to restore pre_sp3 functionality to the system. Advice for now: stay away from XP sp3 if it can be helped no matter how much Microsoft recommends it.

I updated 2 systems

I updated 2 systems, no problems at all. And this was the day it was released. One system is still going strong, while the other died from the brutal treatment it suffered at the hands of UPS.

Just a tip to anyone reading this who may be moving long distance in the near future... When shipping your computer, no matter how well you think you packed it, write FRAGILE all over the outside of the box. Otherwise it may arrive looking like it had been through a war zone, as in my case.

Sorry to hear about that Jimmy.

It's not just the loss of the computer, although that's bad enough, but its the hustle of getting any new one set up with the original data.

To the original poster, I only updated my own. But no problems there either.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the update that didn't play nicely with ZoneAlarm.

Could well be.

ZoneAlarm doesn't seem to agree with SP3.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
